President Trump on Signing Stopgap Spending Bill: ‘We Were Forced To Increase Spending On Things We Do Not Like Or Want’

President Donald Trump signed a stopgap bill on Friday while protesting the levels of spending and calling for more Republicans in Congress.

The bill staves off another shutdown until Congress can negotiate an omnibus spending bill by March 23.

The government shut down automatically at midnight after Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul used his procedural powers to protest government spending levels Thursday, only to “reopen” early Friday morning.

“Just signed Bill. Our Military will now be stronger than ever before. We love and need our Military and gave them everything — and more. First time this has happened in a long time. Also means JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!” Trump tweeted Friday morning.

The president also urged voters to elect more Republicans to cut down on government spending—and also said negotiations on DACA, former President Obama’s unconstitutional executive order granting amnesty to some 800,000 illegals, will begin.

“Without more Republicans in Congress, we were forced to increase spending on things we do not like or want in order to finally, after many years of depletion, take care of our Military. Sadly, we needed some Dem votes for passage. Must elect more Republicans in 2018 Election!” he added.

The bill increased spending by roughly $300 billion, of which $165 billion went towards military spending. Another $90 billion went to relief for hurricane damage and $131 billion was dedicated to domestic spending.

“Costs on non-military lines will never come down if we do not elect more Republicans in the 2018 Election, and beyond. This Bill is a BIG VICTORY for our Military, but much waste in order to get Dem votes. Fortunately, DACA not included in this Bill, negotiations to start now!”
